Bible Weekly Challenges, Mar 04 to Mar. 10

Hope y'all were able to complete last week's challenges! Here are the weekly challenges for this week: Main challenges - WATCH The Bible Project's video on the Book of Judges (for background info) - READ from the Book of Judges:

  • ch 1-3: Israel falls away after Joshua's death
  • ch 4-5: story of Deborah
  • ch 6-8: story of Gideon
  • ch 13-16: story of Samson

Bonus challenges - READ these chapters with a peer (and talk about it!) - MEMORIZE one of the following verses:

  • Judges 6:8-9
    • the Lord sent a prophet to the people of Israel. And he said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I led you up from Egypt and brought you out of the house of slavery. And I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out before you and gave you their land"
  • Judges 6:10a
    • And I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God; you shall not fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.

Sam Zhang explains why he chose this book for our HG to read:

"Most of the people who have grown up in church have grown up with these figures, but might not have read their stories, and people who’ve just started coming out might not know them at all. However, they are key figures of the Bible and each of their stories include important lessons. Moreover, the Book of Judges shows how God in his mercy sends judges over and over again to save the Israelites even though they keep falling away and sinning again every time they are saved. It’s an important reminder (1 Corinthians 10:11!) of not only his mercy and patience, but also how we too often only turn to God when we’re in need of him, but otherwise treat him and his commandments lukewarmly."

Best of luck and happy Bible reading!
