Sharing from the WORD

Hey everyone!!

I've just read Psalm 31 for our weekly Word challenge. It's been an exhausting day, and I've been scrambling to catch up on work all day on four hours of sleep, after an exhausting middle-of-the-night battle with a nonfunctional dryer (note to self: never start laundry past midnight again). I even had to miss church this week for a work retreat. To top it all off, I missed making a call I had promised to give my mom.

It's been one of those days. However, the Lord reminds me in Psalm 31:4 that I've already secured the promise of a far greater joy than anything this world could offer. He reminds me that it's not I, but he:

Into your hand I commit my spirit;

you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.

This entire psalm is about a God who is our rock and our fortress, our refuge and our shelter. Our God knows about our pain and our trials, and he welcomes those who seek shelter in him. The creator of the universe works for those who take refuge in him (v. 19), even though every single one is a sinner that grieves him endlessly. We only have to say yes to this wonderful offer.

In Psalm 31:14, it says:

But I trust in you,O LORD;

I say, "You are my God."

I am reminded that if I abide by him and trust in him, then I gain his peace no matter what kind of day it is or where I am. He is beckoning for me and offering exactly what I need. I only need to follow.
