This past Friday, the Klesis frosh got together with the seniors once again at Durant Loft, for a time of fun, fellowship and hearing from God’s word. After a hectic of midterms for a bunch of students (like Chem 1A and CS61A), it was great to just gather again and reconnect after a stressful past couple of days.

After starting our night with dinner, Isaiah spoke to us from Mark 10, about one of the more tragic figures in the Bible. The story centers around a young, wealthy man, who asks Jesus a very earnest, honest question: “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” A solid, spiritual question that we all need to think about: what’s going to happen after we die?

But that’s where the story takes a surprising turn. After telling the young man to follow all of the commandments, which he has, Jesus tells the young man to sell all that he has and to follow him! That’s crazy talk, or at least it sure sounds crazy at first glance… But Isaiah reminded us that in our world, people give up all that they have for all sorts of things, such as career or higher education. Even the relationship of marriage can be seen as a way to “sell all that I have” for lifelong full commitment to another person.

So, what are we prioritizing? What or who are we making sacrifices for? Are there changes that need to be made for the sake of following Jesus? For all of us in Klesis, whether we grew up in the church or not, these are essential questions we need to consider for ourselves as we live out our faith.

On the heels of that thought-provoking message, we took part in a war of ramen ingredients. The senior sisters led us in competitions that included the following:

Drawing famous American landmarks, in just a few seconds

Matching up postures with 4 different people just based on one word

Smashing an egg on guys wearing trash bags

Poor Eddie… He’s probably had better moments in his life

Ridiculous. I know.

But after all that craziness and winning our ingredients, we finished off the night by cooking our delicious ramen. Because after all, we’re just a bunch of college students here in Klesis :) And what’s more appropriate than college students eating some late-night ramen?
